We're Leaving Hong Kong
Well, we're all packed up and ready to leave Hong Kong tomorrow morning, it was quite sad to get on the star ferry and walk down my favourite little street in Kowloon today all for the last time, we've had a really good time here. Tuesday was very hot and humid so we spent a lot of the day wandering round the very smart air-conditioned shopping malls (which made me feel a lot better!) and yesterday we decided to do a trip to some outlying islands - we went to two, the first was really small and felt so relaxed and calm compared to the bustle of Kowloon, there are no vehicles on the island and it had this really cute little bay with little fishing boats and sampans bobbing around. The second, Lantau, is much bigger and the main attraction was a fishing village with stilt houses which was supposed to be a 'must see', so anyway, we got on a bus for a 45 minute journey after an hour on the ferry to get there and the village was so bad it was almost funny. There were stilt houses, but mainly over a huge stinky polluted patch of mud with mutant little crabs and fish in it, there was one slightly nicer little bit which actually had water but it was definitely not worth the long trip there, the rest of the tourists seemed to think so too as after about 20 minutes we were all queueing up at the bus stop to get back to the ferry. What fun that was......
We've been spending our evenings mooching round kowloon because it is so fab in the evenings, the streets are lit up with hundreds of massive signs fighting for space and people carry on shopping till well into the night. Paradise. Up until today we've eaten various kinds of asian food for dinner but today decided to have a western meal as it will probably be our last chance for a while, so we ended up in the Irish pub eating roast lamb and mashed potatoes which was a bit surreal but fun.
But by far the most exciting news so far is......that....we have just bought the dvd boxset of the first series of Lost! It did take us over three hours to track down but will be well worth it. It is my birthday present to Rupert and he is not going to let me near it as I accidentally looked at the inlay booklet and accidentally saw a picture which told me something about one of the characters that we are not meant to know yet and he is convinced I will read the episode descriptions and tell him what happens...would I do that? Anyway he is applying his Theory of Rationing Treats to it and from now on.....apparently..........we will watch one episode every friday night, when we take our Larium, so fridays nights will be 'Larium and Lost' nights. I can't wait. Oh, and if any other Lost fans want to know what happens, then I can arrange to let you know...for a small fee of course...
Its been a tiring but relaxing few days, if that's possible and I've had much more fun here than last time I was here, when I was too ill to do anything other than a little bit of shopping! We're looking forward to seeing Hainan island tomorrow and are desperate to know if our appartment is up to scratch. Watch this space...................
